An insulation assessment in Barnstaple, Devon is a non-invasive survey that maps every insulated surface in your property and grades its real-world performance. Barnstaple's Atlantic weather drives damp into north-facing walls and roof timbers, and a lot of older stock around Pilton and Newport still carries spray foam installed decades ago. We answer it with readings, not guesswork.
Every assessment is a fixed-fee survey with a written report. Here is exactly what is covered, and what we quote separately if you decide to act on the findings.
We inspect the loft space, roof timbers, felt and any visible insulation. Moisture meter readings are taken at multiple points to detect trapped damp. We photograph anything that looks like rot, condensation or failed foam.
A thermal imaging camera scans internal walls and ceilings to reveal cold spots, missing insulation and air leaks. We run the heating first so the temperature difference is clear. Every anomaly is photographed and tagged to its room.
Where accessible, we inspect cavity wall insulation through existing vents or by borescope. We check for foam bridging the cavity, which causes damp. If the cavity is not accessible, we note that in the report and recommend next steps.
If spray foam is present, we take a small core sample to confirm whether it is open cell or closed cell and check its condition. Samples are tested for isocyanate residue where relevant. Results come back within 48 hours.
You receive a PDF report with photographs, thermal images, moisture readings and a clear recommendation for each area: leave, top up, or remove. Indicative costs are included so you can budget. Reports are issued within 24 hours.
